This FAQ provides answers to basic questions about Utilities.
What information does IUB need to register my meter with IUB?
IUB need you to go to www.iub.co.za and register with your meter number, metered address, name/business name, mobile number where you want IUB to send your prepayment token, email address where you want IUB to send your prepayment token and VAT number should you require a VAT invoice. Vendees also need to indicate their choice with regards to Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) purchase or purchase via retail outlets, banking applications and online via Easy Pay.
How do I buy Electricity and/or Water?
Electricity and/or water can be bought via prepaid vending. Before vendee can purchase prepaid electricity and/or water, vendees need to register at www.iub.co.za. After registration vendee might receive a Key Change Token, send to vendee’s registered mobile number and/or email address. Vendee need to activate their prepaid meter with the applicable Key Change Token before vendee can purchase prepaid electricity and/or water prepayment tokens, alternatively vendee will be notified. Key Change Token converts vendee’s utility meter to IUB’s vending platform. Prepayment electricity and/or water purchase via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), via selected retail outlets, via banking applications and online via Easy Pay.
Easy Pay and Blue Label are third party companies that provide pay points at various retail outlets and online purchasing via internet websites. Easy Pay point of sale devices prints a twenty digit prepayment token. Blue Label points of sale devices distribute a UNIPIN voucher that vendee would redeem for a prepayment token via SMS. Please note that purchases via these options will result in a service charge of 10% levied against purchases. Vendee will therefore receive 10% less units, compared to purchases via EFT. This service charge is charged by third party vendors and not by IUB. Please note that this option will be the default option for prepayment electricity purchase. Should vendee opt for prepaid electricity purchase via the EFT option, vendee need to SMS to 060 995 9489 or email to prepaid@iubprepaid.com, vendee meter number followed by ACTIVATE. Should vendee opt to go back to the default prepayment electricity purchase option, vendee need to SMS to 060 995 9489 or email to prepaid@iubprepaid.com, vendee meter number followed by DEACTIVATE. Please note that notice of 48Hrs (working day hours) will apply with regards to these conversions.
With regards to EFT purchase, vendee need to SMS to 060 995 9489 or email to prepaid@iubprepaid.com, vendee meter number followed by ACTIVATE. Following vendee is to create a new beneficiary on their internet banking profile as per IUB nominated banking details. When purchasing electricity or water, vendee’s last 10 digits of their unique meter number should be used as reference. IUB has accounts with all major banks and vendee is to make payments into IUB’s bank that corresponds with their own. Proof of payment will be sent to IUB by our banks. Upon IUB receiving vendee’s proof of payment, IUB will email and/or SMS, as per vendee registered information, a twenty digit numeric token to vendee’s indicated email address and/or mobile number. The twenty digit numeric token are to be used to activate vendee’s utility meter.
What is a Key Change Token?
A Key Change Token is a set of twenty digit numbers that IUB will forward to your indicated mobile number and/or email address after your registration of your meter on www.iub.co.za.
My meter does not want to accept my Key Change Token or Prepayment Token
When inserting tokens in concession with input errors, meters can freeze up/get stuck. To unfreeze a meter, ask a qualified person to switch of your electrical mains for a few minutes. With your electricity mains switched back on, try activating your meter with the Key Change Token or prepayment token. Should this fail or should your meter display an error code, kindly contact IUB at prepaid@iubprepaid.com, stating your query. A qualified IUB consultant will assist you in resolving your problem.
What is my rate?
All vending tariffs/rates are set according to the existing applicable municipal or Eskom rates as per NERSA guidelines. Please find your applicable municipal or Eskom tariffs/rates on the Tariffs/Rates page of this site. IUB is remunerated by owners/body corporates. IUB is not a reseller of electricity and/or water and as such makes no profit from the rate/tariff as set on your meter as per NERSA laws. All non-EFT purchases will be subject to a service charge of 10% (Inclusive of VAT) for prepayment utility purchases. This service charge is third party vendor’s remuneration
